That's a great question.
Say you do something like paint tin soldiers as a hobby, but you don’t have any place you can work that has appropriate lighting, where you can not be interrupted and where you can, with a bit of tidying, leave your materials instead of putting everything away every time. That’s what a Maker Space offers.
We have large work-stations in a well-lit room. You can choose to sit down or stand, and we have extra lighting if you need it. Each work-station has its own dedicated power strip for multiple electrical devices. We have two “office” work-spaces and Internet access for those who work remotely and just want to do it from someplace other than home. We have a full kitchen for those who want to can, dehydrate or even host an event that requires a kitchen. We have a very large table in the back room; we have two areas – unheated, but roofed – for things like sanding and spray-painting. We have a storage room where you can leave your materials for the duration of your rental agreement, and where donated tools and materials are available for the use of everyone.
We have security cameras running 24/7 and as soon as we get the electronic locks put in, the facility will be available 24/7/365 to those who have a current lock code. Bring your soldiers – or dried flowers, or sewing machine, or Cricut – and find a work bench you like. Plug your equipment into the provided power strip, have a seat – or not – and enjoy Doing! When you’re ready to stop, but need to leave the project at our place, grab a box and scribble your name on the end of it. Put your materials in the box and leave them in the storage room. Or, if your project can’t be moved, condense it to the smallest area possible on the work surface, write your name, contact information and date/time you expect to come retrieve your project on a "Wet Paint" sign and leave it there.
